Recap - Dapper Day 2024

Ah, another Dapper Day has come and gone. To be completely honest, this past Dapper Day weekend was almost a bust. In the weeks leading up to the event, I ordered multiple dresses, envisioning a completely different outfit for this holiday season. I ended up ordering five dresses, and unfortunately, they all had to be returned for various reasons. Whether they were too big, too small, or just plain wrong, they didn’t work out.

I had high hopes for one particular dress. A company reached out to me and offered to send it to me, but when it arrived, I was out of town visiting family for Thanksgiving. After returning home with only four days left until Dapper Day, I tried on the dress and realized it wasn’t the right fit.

In my haste, I rummaged through my closet and found a silver sequin dress that I had bought back in February 2021 from Anthropologie. I had worn it once for a dinner event but never for Dapper Day. While the dress was cute, it was a little shorter than I would have liked for a full day at the park, where I would be walking and meeting multiple people.

I then searched through my craft drawers and found leftover fur from last year, gifted to me by @Twinsauce after I helped them sew white fur onto their Santa outfits. The fur was wide enough to add an additional two inches to the bottom of the dress. So, the night before the event, I whip-stitched the fur onto the hem and added more to the rest of the dress to create something brand new.

But that wasn’t enough for me! I had envisioned large Christmas tree-inspired hair. Originally, I planned to use my own hair, but knowing I would be pressed for time—and considering how long it takes to curl my thick hair—I decided to buy hair extensions that matched my color. These extensions were already pre-textured and curled, making them perfect for creating the volume I dreamed of without damaging my real hair.

Since I was using hair extensions, I thought about how to enhance the Christmas tree hair look even further. That's when I decided to add lights! I visited Target, and in their lamp section, I discovered LED fairy lights in various colors and lengths. I found a bundle that even came with a remote, which was fantastic. This way, I could turn my glowing hair on and off without having to dig through the extensions to find the switch when entering a show or in a crowded space. I knew my hair would be quite the distraction, but I didn’t want to be overwhelmingly so.  I completed the look using small glass ornaments from Target's holiday section. And more than likely, I will reuse all of these items in my holiday decor.

It all turned out incredibly well, and I’m thrilled with how my ensemble looked for the first day of Dapper Day. For the second day, I chose a dress that had already made an appearance this holiday season—a plaid dress from Chelsea Reece. After the craziness of the first day’s outfit and hair, I thought it best to opt for something simpler and more comfortable. The plaid was a perfect choice for Animal Kingdom, and it kept the festive spirit alive throughout the day
